The part about finding Old Jack dead was creepy. I'd hate to be the one to bury that body after waiting until spring. Ewwww!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have an 1870s obituary for my great-great grandpa that actually says

"John, Died December 21, 1872. He will be buried in cemetary when the ground thaws sufficent, probably spring."

Did you know the tradion of flowers at funerals started because bodies were commonly kept for weeks or months at a time before burial and they needed something to cover the smell?

Gross but true.

That Kirsten book is sort of unbelievable, but some pretty crazy things happened on the frontier. It's farfetched, but not impossible (just pretty close).

It also bugs me that Kirsten has bangs in all of the books, when they were never worn until the 1870s. Swedish hairstyles notwithstanding, If she had bangs when she moved to america (and that's a huge if) she probably would have grown them out to match current american styles.
